My name is Anika and I am a writer and artist. I grew up on Vancouver Island, spent most of my adult life in East Vancouver, and ‘home’ is currently Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. I love words and images, especially when they’re found together. It’s no surprise, then, that I wrote and illustrated a book called Becoming Neighbours as a reflection on my experience living alongside people seeking refugee protection. Following my time living within the Kinbrace community, I worked for three years as a ‘graphic recorder,’ taking live, illustrated notes of conversations, conferences, and the like. Currently I am exploring the new calling of motherhood…and doing so in a cross-cultural landscape while working with Mennonite Central Committee. I live with my husband Andrew and our daughter Lydia as guests on the on the lush, humid territories of the Guarayo, Paiconeca, Chiquitano, Ayoreo, and Guaraní peoples… with deep gratitude.
